Fred Rogers and François Clemmons in an episode of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, 1969 (read about this historic moment here)
Cue up Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood: Today is National Good Neighbor Day. First created in the early 1970s by Montana resident Becky Mattson, the annual holiday was adopted by the federal government in 1978.
“Understanding, love, and respect build cohesive families and communities,” former President Jimmy Carter said at the time. “The same bonds cement our Nation and the nations of the world. For most of us, this sense of community is nurtured and expressed in our neighborhoods where we give each other an opportunity to share and feel part of a larger family.”
Good morning, fam. Your Mom has been a little… overwhelmed. I did start a list of things I want to talk with you about, so that should help with the future consistency of this newsletter. Thank you for hanging in there while I figure stuff out. Yay, ADHD.
So, today, I just want to remind you that no matter how big the dumpster is around you, this community supports you. You are my neighbor, no matter where you live. And I’m here to listen and give you all the virtual mom hugs you need.
Together, we are stronger.
Love you,
Your Mom
